Get ready for another wonderful spring in your garden! We are thrilled to commemorate 150 years of gardening camaraderie with you. "Your success and pleasure are more important to Park than your money," was the motto of our founder, George W. Park. This motto has been the driving force behind Park Seed Company since its humble beginnings in 1868 at the kitchen table of a 15-year-old boy who dreamt of selling seeds from his own garden to earn some extra cash. Mr. Park viewed gardening as a spiritual and enjoyable activity. In his early catalogs, he encouraged gardeners to exchange seeds and even published nature poetry written by them. His catalogs brought together gardeners from distant rural areas, and by 1918, Park Seed Company had 180,000 loyal customers. Today, our community of gardeners has grown into the millions, yet we continue to uphold Mr. Park's original motto. While we now connect through social media rather than handwritten letters, our goal remains the same: to spread the joy of gardening to as many individuals as possible.
In 2016, the All-America Selections (AAS) honored Super Moon Pumpkin as a winner. This F1 hybrid is cultivated as a decorative and culinary fruit vegetable. Super Moon pumpkins are large, slightly elongated globes that can reach diameters of 15 to 18 inches and weights of 25 to 30 pounds, with some even reaching up to 50 pounds. These pumpkins are strikingly white and flawlessly smooth, making them a perfect ornament for the fall season. Their yellow flesh is ideal for stews, soups, or canning, and their roasted seeds make a tasty and nutritious snack. Additionally, their sturdy stems make them great for carving jack-o'-lanterns.
Super Moon is an herbaceous annual winter squash that belongs to the cucurbit family. This fast-growing plant forms a sprawling vine that can spread up to 4 to 5 feet and produce 2 to 4 fruits per plant. Hardy and easy to grow from seed, Super Moon thrives in full sun and fertile, well-draining loamy soil. It is a warm-season vegetable that is sensitive to cold temperatures and frost. The seeds can be sown directly into warm spring soil once all frost dangers have passed and the soil temperature is between 58° to 60°F. Alternatively, plants can be started indoors and later transplanted. The flowers begin producing fruits when night temperatures range from 55° to 75°F.
